The term “DOC Fee,” also known as a “dealer conveyance or processing fee” per Connecticut law is charged by new and used car dealers as part of the ultimate selling price of a motor vehicle. It is defined in Connecticut statute to mean:”…a fee charged by a dealer to recover reasonable costs for processing all documentation and performing services related to the closing of a sale, including, but not limited to, the registration and transfer of ownership of the motor vehicle which is the subject of the sale.” MA has a similar law that gives dealers the right to collect a DOC Fee from customers for the same purpose.
Car dealers prepare and store/archive records of several documents as part of the vehicle transaction process including, but not limited to, a purchase order, an appraisal document, an odometer statement, insurance documents, and registration documents. The fees associated with these tasks are passed on to the customer and DO NOT INCLUDE the costs associated with the finance process for the deal such as processing credit applications and processing any sale or lease contract which cannot be part of the DOC Fee by CT and MA law. Also, the Title Preparation Fee is not included and is billed separately as an independent line item on the deal.
DOC Fees may vary by dealer and Gale Toyota wants to be sure our customers understand the DOC Fee is not required or remitted in whole or in part by any state or federal agency.
